High-performance wire electrodes engineered to meet global ASME, AWS, and EN standards for optimal structural welding.
In modern industrial fabrication, the selection of appropriate consumables for joining austenitic stainless steels directly dictates structural integrity, longevity, and resistance to environmental stress cracking. Specifically, ER308 filler wire and its low-carbon variant ER308L stand as the backbone of metallurgical joining within the 300-series alloy family. These filler wires are strategically formulated for welding basic 18-8 stainless steel formulations, such as AISI grades 301, 302, 304, 308, and their stabilized low-carbon derivatives like 304L. Maintaining optimal composition, geometry, and feed stability is vital, and top-tier manufacturers in China are spearheading breakthroughs to meet this demand.
The manufacturing process of China-engineered ER308L wire relies heavily on trace element control. A balanced alloy structure includes chromium (19.5% to 22.0%) to ensure corrosion immunity and nickel (9.0% to 11.0%) to stabilize the ductile austenite matrix. Premium wire manufacturers, such as Wulian Yuxin Hardware Equipment Co., Ltd., employ tight tolerances during continuous wire drawing to ensure the weld pool contains a targeted level of delta ferrite (typically 4 to 12 FN). This precise amount of ferrite is essential to combat hot cracking (solidification cracking) in heavy-section multi-pass welding applications.

High-quality China 308 filler wires play an irreplaceable role across broad industrial sectors. When engineers construct infrastructure meant to last for half a century, the structural joint is the weakest point. Premium wires act as the critical chemical link, neutralizing external corrosive forces and intense physical stresses.
High temperatures and reactive gases require filler metal with exceptional grain alignment. Our ER308L wire delivers maximum tensile strength under thermal load, making it the preferred choice for oil refineries and transport vessels.
Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) processing demands materials that resist brittle fracturing down to -196°C. The controlled delta-ferrite content in our ER308 series prevents low-temperature cracking under cryogenic stress.
Purity is paramount. Our filler wires ensure a smooth, crevice-free weld bead that prevents bacteria nesting, facilitating reliable Clean-in-Place (CIP) regimes in processing plants.

The principal difference lies in the carbon content. ER308 typically contains up to 0.08% carbon, whereas ER308L is limited to a maximum of 0.03%. The lower carbon content in ER308L helps prevent carbide precipitation during the welding cycle, mitigating intergranular corrosion risk in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) of welded components without requiring post-weld solution annealing.
For MIG (GMAW) welding with ER308L, a gas mix containing Argon with 1% to 2% Oxygen or Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is recommended. Pure Argon should be avoided for MIG due to arc instability and poor wetting. The inclusion of trace oxygen or CO2 stabilizes the arc plasma and reduces surface tension, enhancing puddle fluidity and bead profile. For TIG (GTAW), 100% pure Argon is standard.
Delta-ferrite exhibits higher solubility for impurities like phosphorus and sulfur than the austenite phase. Because these impurities lower the freezing point and form low-melting-point eutectics that cause solidification cracking, having a small volume fraction of delta-ferrite (typically 4% to 12% or 4-12 FN) in the primary weld solid structure safely binds these impurities, preventing micro-cracking during cooling.
Generally, this is not recommended. AISI 316 contains 2% to 3% Molybdenum to enhance resistance to pitting corrosion in chloride-rich environments. Welding 316 steel with ER308 filler wire introduces dilution, yielding a joint lacking molybdenum, which leaves the weld joint susceptible to localized pitting and premature corrosive failure. For AISI 316 steel, ER316L filler wire should be used.
Our Quality Control process includes spectral examination of incoming wire rods, automated optical diameter tracking during drawing, and mechanical tests (tensile, elongation, and charpy impact tests). Our tolerance metrics are kept 30% tighter than industry specifications, ensuring consistent diameter, clean surfaces, and reliable performance on automated robotic welding systems.
