Within the domain of stainless steel joinery, 308 filler wire stands as the structural cornerstone. Primarily utilized for welding austenitic stainless steels of the AISI 301, 302, 304, and 305 series, 308 filler metal features a precise metallurgical profile. Specifically, the "L" variants (such as ER308L or ER308LSi) restrict the carbon content to less than 0.03%, dramatically reducing the risk of intergranular carbide precipitation (sensitization) during the thermal cycles of welding. This ensures that the weldment retains its corrosion resistance without requiring post-weld heat treatment (PWHT).
Furthermore, leading Chinese factories manipulate the Delta Ferrite levels (typically controlled within 3 to 10 Ferrite Number / FN) in the weld metal. This careful balance provides sufficient hot-cracking resistance during solidification while preventing embrittlement under cryogenic service conditions, a vital requirement in modern liquified natural gas (LNG) transport networks and cryogenic piping systems.
In terms of volume and quality, Chinese manufacturers dominate the global supply chain for 308 series filler wires. This dominance is driven by advanced domestic raw-material supply chains (premium wire rods with controlled sulfur and phosphorus content), automated wire-drawing technology, and competitive energy and logistical positioning. As a result, China-based factories supply critical industrial sectors in Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Americas, meeting strict compliance norms of major construction, petrochemical, and automotive projects.
In addition to basic cost-efficiencies, leading factories are investing heavily in automated layer winding and advanced copper-coating or clean-acid-pickling processes. These processes ensure the wires offer low spatter, stable arc characteristics, and consistent wire feedability, making them ideal for high-throughput robotic welding lines in global automotive and machinery assembly plants.
At Wulian Yuxin, our research and engineering capabilities extend beyond stainless steel wires. We are a comprehensive provider of high-grade welding consumables designed to meet diverse mechanical properties and chemical compositions:
By offering this full range under ISO9001 and CE certifications, we ensure that global procurement agencies, wholesale distributors, and engineering contractors can consolidate their welding consumables shipments, improving lead times and lowering global logistics costs.
How Wulian Yuxin is adapting to high-performance demand and digital welding paradigms.
Our R&D is focused on reducing trace elements (P, S, Bi, and Pb) to ultra-low thresholds (under 0.01%). This prevents hot cracking and ensures that our ER308L filler wires maintain ductile fracture properties under cryogenic testing at temperatures as low as -196°C (-320°F).
To eliminate feeding resistance in long conduit systems, we are rolling out non-residual drawing lubricants. This technology yields a shiny, lubricant-free wire surface, minimizing carbon pick-up in the weld pool and preventing porosity defects in automated robotic cells.
By increasing the silicon content (0.65% to 1.00% range), we are improving bead wetting and puddle fluidity. This modification results in a flatter bead profile, reducing the need for grinding and post-weld machining in aesthetic architectural structures.

Multi-pass drawing systems that continuously reduce diameter while maintaining precise dimensional tolerances.
High-speed automated spooling ensures zero tangling, essential for high-deposition robotic applications.
Routine spectrometer analysis of raw wire coils and finished batches guarantees chemical composition compliance.
How our products solve structural challenges in high-stakes global sectors.
Processing plants operate under high pressures and in acidic environments. Our ER308L welding wire provides the corrosion resistance and high weld ductility required to build chemical storage units and distillation columns safely.
LNG storage and transport components face temperatures below -160°C. With optimized Delta Ferrite levels, our 308 filler metal prevents brittle fractures at low temperatures, ensuring high mechanical safety and weld integrity.
Exhaust systems face continuous cyclic heating and exposure to combustion products. Our ER308LSi wire features high silicon content, promoting stable wet-out on thin-walled stainless pipes and reducing production scrap rates.
Delivering high-performance welding wires to support infrastructure projects across 20+ countries.
Over nearly two decades, Wulian Yuxin Hardware Equipment Co., Ltd. has developed long-term relationships with distributors, raw material suppliers, and end-users. Our products are exported to demanding markets worldwide:
By using premium transport packaging (moisture-barrier foils, heavy-duty spools, and wooden palletization), we ensure our welding wire arrives in perfect condition, free from oxidation or physical deformation, and ready for deployment.

Quality variations in ER308L stainless steel welding consumables can lead to pore formation, micro-fissures, and intergranular cracking. To prevent these defects, Wulian Yuxin controls every critical chemical and physical stage of processing:
We maintain chromium concentrations between 19.5% and 22.0%, and nickel levels between 9.0% and 11.0%. This composition matches the matrix of AISI 304 steels, ensuring consistent mechanical strength and corrosion resistance.
Using the WRC-1992 diagram, our engineers balance Cr and Ni equivalents to ensure a target ferrite range of 3-10 FN. This level of ferrite prevents hot-shortness during cooling while maintaining low-temperature toughness.
Our automated laser monitors keep diameter tolerances within +/- 0.01 mm. Maintaining a consistent cast and helix prevents wire slipping or dragging inside liners, promoting a stable and reliable welding arc.
For automated welding lines in automotive and manufacturing operations, these micro-level details are critical. Minor surface defects or variations in chemical balance can lead to burn-back, contact-tip wear, and weld defects. We address these challenges through strict in-process testing at every phase of production.
Direct metallurgical answers from our production specialists and quality engineers.
The differences lie in their chemical specifications, which impact performance and weld properties:
Delta ferrite provides hot-cracking resistance in austenitic stainless steel weldments. A fully austenitic weld pool is susceptible to micro-fissuring during solidification. By maintaining a ferrite range of 3 to 10 FN, the weld metal is protected against hot-shortness. However, for cryogenic service applications, ferrite should be kept near the lower end of this range to prevent low-temperature embrittlement.
For gas metal arc welding (MIG/GMAW) with ER308L, we recommend using a mixture of Argon + 1% to 2% Oxygen, or Argon + 2% CO2. These blends stabilize the arc and improve bead wet-out. Using high concentrations of carbon dioxide (above 5%) should be avoided, as it can cause carbon pick-up in the weld metal, reducing its corrosion resistance.
We maintain quality control through a multi-stage testing program:
ER308L is not recommended for welding stainless steel to mild steel. The dilution of the weld pool can lead to crack-sensitive martensitic structures. For dissimilar joints of this type, we recommend using a higher-alloyed filler metal, such as ER309L, which compensates for the dilution effect and maintains a ductile weld structure.
For international shipments, each spool is wrapped in plastic film, packed with a desiccant, and heat-sealed inside a moisture-barrier bag. The spools are then boxed and packed onto wooden pallets with protective shrink-wrap, shielding the wire from humidity and salt air during ocean transport.
