Why Silicon (Si) & Manganese (Mn) ratios matter: In mild steel TIG welding, surface mill scale, rust, and surface impurities are common. If the welding wire lacks sufficient deoxidizers, oxygen reacts with carbon in the weld pool, forming carbon monoxide gas and resulting in internal porosity.
