Achieving structural balance via strictly managed dilution and micro-alloying chemistry.
Welding stainless steel (such as 304 or 316) to mild carbon steel introduces the critical challenge of weld pool dilution. Carbon steel elements migrate into the stainless steel weld deposit, creating brittle martensitic microstructures susceptible to cracking under minimal stress.
ER309L (AWS A5.9) is over-alloyed with approximately 23-25% Chromium (Cr) and 12-14% Nickel (Ni). This hyper-enrichment maintains a high-quality austenitic microstructure even when diluted up to 30% by the carbon steel base metal. By limiting carbon content to < 0.03% (Low Carbon), ER309L actively minimizes carbide precipitation at grain boundaries, ensuring supreme resistance against intergranular corrosion.
Our quality control measures utilize the WRC-1992 diagram to ensure target Delta Ferrite Numbers (FN) range from 8 to 15, yielding the perfect balance between hot-crack resistance and mechanical ductility.
| Element | AWS A5.9 Spec (%) | Yuxin Target Range (%) |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | ≤ 0.03 | 0.015 - 0.024 |
| Chromium (Cr) | 23.0 - 25.0 | 23.5 - 24.2 |
| Nickel (Ni) | 12.0 - 14.0 | 12.8 - 13.5 |
| Silicon (Si) | 0.30 - 0.65 | 0.35 - 0.55 |
| Manganese (Mn) | 1.0 - 2.5 | 1.6 - 2.1 |
| Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.03 | ≤ 0.018 |
| Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.03 | ≤ 0.009 (Low Cracking Risk) |
How automation and advanced logistics at our Shandong facility protect global sourcing operations.
Yuxin operates proprietary multi-pass wet drawing machines that reduce wire diameter uniformly, eliminating micro-surface fissures. This guarantees seamless feedability in automated robotic welders without wire jamming.
Each spool is precision-wound (Layer-to-Layer or Precision-Row) using electronic tensioners. This mitigates tangles, ensures steady wire payoff, and minimizes downtime in heavy fabrication plants.
We deploy vacuum-sealed aluminum moisture-barrier bags combined with silica desiccants. This keeps the stainless wire free from carbon contamination and ambient humidity, assuring long storage lifespans.
Meeting rigorous chemical resistance and load-bearing requirements across heavy industries.
In the petrochemical and offshore extraction industries, structures require high surface protection. Corrosive media will eat through mild steel, yet pure stainless steel pipelines are cost-prohibitive. The engineering solution is to fabricate structures with cheap carbon steels and deposit a corrosion-resistant barrier coating.
ER309L serves as the premier choice buffer layer alloy. Our wire maintains its chemical properties under dilution, preventing cracks and providing a secure foundation for subsequent layers of ER308L or ER316L.
Designed for multi-process operations: MIG, TIG, Flux-Cored, and MMA Stick Welding.
Continuous evolution in metal processing chemistry to address carbon neutral goals.
Traditional steel drawing uses heavy lubrication and chemical baths. We are implementing ultrasonic mechanical cleaning lines that reduce waste by 80%, producing clean stainless steel wire that creates minimal smoke during welding.
As industries migrate to automated welding cells, consumables must operate within narrow tolerances. We are engineering wires with consistent helix and cast properties to ensure steady feeding during high-speed, continuous robotic welding.
Working with metallurgy research institutes, we are developing ER309L modifications with trace additions of Rare Earth Elements (REE). These additions improve arc stability and reduce spatter in CO2 and argon shielding gas configurations.
By shifting from plastic spools to recyclable steel basket frames (K300 / BS300), we help our global procurement partners reduce single-use plastic disposal, aligning with international carbon footprint reduction goals.
Streamlined logistics and certification packages for trouble-free port clearance.
Wulian Yuxin Hardware Equipment Co., Ltd. provides a complete certification package with every consignment. This includes 3.1 Mill Test Certificates (MTC) mapping the chemical and mechanical traceability of each heat, alongside ISO9001 and CE registrations.
Our factory is located near the ports of Qingdao and Rizhao. This offers convenient access to ocean shipping lanes, reducing inland transit times and lowering carbon footprints for container shipments to Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Americas.

Get answers to common technical and metallurgical questions about ER309L.
ER308L is designed for welding base metals of similar composition, such as 304 and 304L stainless steels. It features around 20% Cr and 10% Ni. ER309L is over-alloyed with 24% Cr and 13% Ni. This chemical composition is designed to join stainless steel to carbon/low-alloy steels, serving as a buffer layer. The extra alloy content compensates for dilution from the carbon steel base metal, preventing cracking.
The "L" in ER309L stands for "Low Carbon" (≤ 0.03%). During the welding process, exposure to temperatures between 450°C and 850°C can cause chromium carbides to precipitate at grain boundaries, reducing corrosion resistance. Limiting the carbon content to less than 0.03% minimizes carbide formation, protecting the weld zone against intergranular corrosion.
For TIG (GTAW) welding, 100% pure Argon is the standard shielding gas to prevent weld puddle oxidation. For MIG (GMAW) welding, pure Argon can cause arc instability and poor wetting. We recommend using Argon with 1-2% Oxygen or 2-5% CO2 to stabilize the arc, improve bead contour, and reduce spatter.
We source our raw stainless steel rods from reputable mills with full traceability. Every batch undergoes spectral analysis to verify raw material composition before entering our drawing lines. Inline laser gauges measure diameter tolerances to within +/-0.01mm, and final products undergo mechanical testing to ensure they meet ISO9001 and CE certifications.
